Two distinguished presenters:

Rochelle Becker, Executive Director of the Alliance for Nuclear Responsibility
For almost 40 years, Ms. Becker has been volunteering on the forefront of this issue. Rochelle has testified before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, California Energy Commission, Regional Water Quality Control Board, as well as the state legislature and Congress. She is currently intervening on license renewal issues at the CPUC and sits on the related impacts from aging reactors. She has been the president of the board of The Utility Reform Network (TURN). Ms. Becker has taken this issue from the halls of congress to the office of the chairman of the NRC, and been widely quoted in the print and broadcast media.

John Geesman, Attorney representing the Alliance for Nuclear Responsibility
Mr. Geesman has served as both Executive Director, and later, appointed Commissioner of the California Energy Commission. He has also been president of the board  2010 ballot initiative, Prop 16, which would have restricted the use of community choice aggregation in making local and municipal power purchase decisions. Mr. Geesman has also worked as an investment banker in the American bond markets and as Co-­Chair of the Board of Directors of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE).

Journeys of the Global ARC bring participants right to the heart of what we do and what we promote as a not-for-profit organization. The Journeys serve multiple purposes: they provide field-based learning opportunities, inspiration for stories and science communication, and networking energy for bridging sustainability solutions worldwide. During the Journey’s,  we: (1) identify and learn from a diversity of solutions to serious problems of unsustainable development, (2) broadcast exciting success stories from the field—in real time —through the power of multimedia, internet connectivity and social networking technologies, and (3) strengthen and interconnect our partnerships. The Journeys are a snug fit into the mission of The Global ARC which strives to foster action research, open dialog and globally-minded planning around the world.

JPAC to hold public forum on promoting healthy communities and ecosystems in North America

The Global ARC will be participating in San Diego’s annual EarthFair located in beautiful Balboa Park. It is the largest free annual environmental fair in the world. EarthFair 2010 will be our 20th anniversary – the 40th anniversary of the first Earth Day! Each year, the EarthFair draws around 70,000 visitors.

The Global ARC’s booth is located in Area 2 - El Padro East Booth #286. Be sure to stop by to hear more about our summer journey “The Journey of the Global ARC 2010.”
