Journey 2011: Perth, Australia

As part of the World Planning Schools Congress 2011, the Journey of The Global ARC 2011 toured parts of Perth, Fremantle, and Sydney, Australia. Journey 2011 included bicycle, train, bus, mono-rail, walking—and, sorry to say, a gas guzzling, carbon belching Jumbo Jet. The cycling part all took place in Perth over a four day period. The Global ARC (Keith Pezzoli) worked with Paul Maginn (Chair, WPSC 2011) to organize the tour. Nathan Ritchie (Senior Project Planner, LandCorp) did a terrific job defining the routes—including the maps shown in each of the Flickr photo sets. The cycling part of Journey 2011 ran along the River Swan and the railway line in Perth.  The routes included:

  • Mounts Bay Road to UWA (western suburbs)  - cycle path runs along the beautiful Swan River
  • Riverside Drive to East Perth – cycle path along the swan river to the east Perth redevelopment area
  • City-Roe St-East Parade (eastern suburbs) – cycle path that runs through the city and along the railway lines out to the East Perth Power Station
  • Kwinana Freeway – cycle route that runs alongside the south bound freeway and train line
