"Asset Building and Community Development"  has a great chapter on "Cultural Capital."  Getting our culture sorted out is a huge part of the sustainablity challenge  we face (consumerism feeding a bloated and overreaching materialism, anomie at least partly associated with how we arrange our human habitat, ethnocentrism, not to mention other things like rooted in racism,  etc)
